Re: Favorite artists
Sat, January 17, 2004 - 9:49 PMHello
I think you will like Bad Haggis. The piper is Eric Rigler who is world reknowned and has worked on several soundtracks (Titanic, Austin Powers, Braveheart) and has recorded with such artists as Barbra Striesand, Phil Collins, Paul McCartney and Rod Stweart. Check them out at Badhaggis.com. Also check out Glengarry Bhoys: www.glengarrybhoys.com -

Re: Favorite artists
Sun, January 18, 2004 - 3:59 AMI found "Trip" at the Ashby Flea Market a while back, in someone's $1 cd box. I figured a band called "Bad Haggis" couldn't be all that bad, and at the very least would be worth a dollar.
Nowadays I say it'd be worth paying full price for them. It's a really good cd.

Thu, January 22, 2004 - 12:27 PMI saw Bad Haggis back in 2000 at the grandfather mountian Highland games, as well as several other good celtic rock bands, I wasn't really impressed by there CDs, but they are great live.

Thu, January 22, 2004 - 12:44 PMHaven't really been into traditional groups that much lately, but have been more into Celtic Rock. My favorites would have to The Pouges, Flogging Molly, Seven Nations, and Carbon Leaf. Also good are Enter the Haggis, Bad Haggis, Ballydowse, Royal Ratpack, and Pao.

Re: Favorite artists
Thu, January 22, 2004 - 9:31 PMI don't know if you have a public radio station station in your area, but there is an excellent program called "The Thistle & Shamrock". It's a celtic music show hosted by Fiona Ritchie that is broadcast on most NPR stations. Web site link: www.npr.org/programs/thistle/
Also, there is a group out of Scotland called Caledon that is bascially like the 3 Irish tenors except Scottish. They do a cover of The Proclaimers "500 miles" that is way cool. -

Re: Favorite artists
Mon, January 26, 2004 - 5:23 PMYou can also find it on NPR stations that are broadcast through Shoutcast streaming internet radio if you can't find a local NPR station that hosts Thistle and Shamrock, as it the case with KPBS in San Diego. We got attached to Thistle and Shamrock in Indiana and were sad to learn that it is not broadcast in San Diego. Just search the site the previous user gave for which stations broadcast Thistle and Shamrock, then go search www.shoutcast.com to see which of those NPR stations do Shoutcast broadcasts. -

Re: Favorite artists
Mon, January 26, 2004 - 7:44 PMIt does play locally, but I'm never near a radio when it's on. I'll look around and see if it's available as a stream, as Prairie Home Companion is.
Everyone, thanks for some great recommendations. Feel free to keep them coming!

Re: Favorite artists
Mon, January 26, 2004 - 5:30 PMMy favorite traditional CD is The Captain's Collection, an excellent collection of the 18th century Scottish fiddler Captain Simon Fraser.
Of course the premiere the living Scottish fiddler is Alasdair Fraser.
Other contemporary groups that do very nice traditional tunes are Altán and Danu, whom I have heard perform in Fiddler's Hearth Celtic Pub in South Bend, Indiana.
For a more contemporary sound, blending Celtic and indigenous Australian instruments, Gaelic Storm are quite hilarious. -

Re: Favorite artists
Tue, January 27, 2004 - 12:19 PMWell...my vote goes for Christy Moore (of course) for the modern or at least current music scene...he is still rather traditional...not like the levellors or enya...the bands Clannad and Altan on the oldtime traditional...speaking of clannad...Moira Brennan formerly with clannad will be in Portland, Oregon early in March...if I can find out her schedule for other cities I can post it if anyone is interested... -

Born of the timeless tradition of the all-night music session, Molly’s Revenge is a dynamic, acoustic Celtic band known for its unique and infectious on-stage enthusiasm. Re: Favorite artists
Wed, November 12, 2008 - 7:54 PMIt's shameless self promotion, but you might enjoy my band Circled By Hounds. We do traditional and original Celtic folk music from our home base in Portland Oregon.
We employ fiddles, guitar, percussion and 4 voices as the foundation and sometimes add flutes, whistles, concertina and banjo.
We've just finished and released our 2nd studio album "Howl No Demon Louder" which features guest apperences by Hanz Araki, Ezra Holbrook and Johnny B. Connolly. You can listen to a bit of it for free at: www.myspace.com/circledbyhounds and if you like, you can join our new Tribe at: tribes.tribe.net/thepack
Thanks for your time and we hope you enjoy our music!
